The mission of Sanford Community Youth Alliance is to reduce and support
unaccompanied youth in Sanford.
Our goals are to provide homeless youth safe shelter expeditiously,
help students access services that can lead in a multitude of directions as well as a long-term goal of a youth center.
SCYA (Sanford Community Youth Alliance) started as a small group of concerned citizens of our area that learned and respected what Sue Austin has accomplished at Ryan’s Home in North Berwick. We wanted to come up with a system within our community where the teenagers that are homeless in our high school could be matched with a safe and stable place to live while allowing them to stay in our school system.
We are currently working on the liability issues and red tape involved with getting this off the ground. We have community members who have expressed interest in hosting students and helping to provide the necessary resources for these students.
